Sidney Arthur Jones

Rifleman, London Rifle Brigade

Sidney Arthur Jones was a student at Alleyn’s until 1916 and lived at 9 Haredale Road, Herne Hill with his parents, Thomas and Ada, and his brother and sister, Ralph and Winifred. He enlisted in the war effort at the age of 17 and joined the London Rifle Brigade after being found fit for service in August 1917. During his time with the London Rifle Brigade, Sidney served overseas as a Rifleman on the Western Front and saw action in 1918 as part of the Hundred Day Offensive, which would eventually lead to Allied victory.

After the conflict came to a close in November 1918, Sidney returned home to England and later received the British War and Victory Medal for his wartime service.
